The Joyful Arrival of Spring in Windsor: A Blossoming Tale!

As the last vestiges of winter retreat, Windsor awakens to the enchantment of spring. The air carries a promise—a whisper of renewal, a symphony of birdsong, and the delicate scent of blooming flowers. Here, amidst the historic streets and regal gardens, spring unfolds like a well-rehearsed ballet.

Windsor Great Park dons its emerald cloak, and daffodils stretch their golden heads toward the sun. The Savill Garden bursts forth with rhododendrons, camellias, and azaleas, painting the landscape in hues of pink and crimson. Visitors wander along winding paths, their footsteps softened by a carpet of fallen petals.

Riverside Strolls:

The River Thames sparkles, reflecting the azure sky. Couples walk hand in hand, their laughter mingling with the gentle lapping of water against the banks. Swans glide gracefully, their necks forming elegant arcs. Cafés spill onto cobbled streets, offering alfresco dining—a chance to savour the warmth (we say hopefully) of the sun on skin that has long forgotten winter’s chill.

Cherry Blossom Canopies:

Windsor Castle, standing sentinel atop its hill, is framed by delicate cherry blossoms. Their pale pink petals flutter like confetti, celebrating the season. Tourists and locals alike pause to capture this ephemeral beauty—a snapshot to carry in their hearts long after the blossoms have fallen.

Easter Anticipation:

As March waltzes toward its finale, Easter tiptoes in. The town prepares for festivities—a blend of tradition and merriment. Easter eggs appear in shop windows, their vibrant colours promising hidden delights. Families plan picnics in their gardens, where children hunt for chocolate treasures beneath ancient oaks.

And so, as the sun warms the cobblestones and cherry blossoms flutter like whispered secrets, Windsor embraces spring. The joy of longer days, lighter hearts, and the promise of new beginnings fills the air. As March bids adieu, Easter awaits—a time for reflection, gratitude, and perhaps a chocolate bunny or two!

In Windsor, spring is not merely a season; it’s a celebration—a reminder that life, like the blossoms, returns with unwavering grace

Supporting Cancer Research UK this Christmas

We had a lot of fun creating this musically-themed staff Christmas card this year.  With the help of photoshop, some creativity and a little bit of Prosecco we all got together in our best sparkly outfits and posed for the camera to create our Christmas card below.  Saving money on printing and posting cards, every year we email our superb clients, wonderful landlords and supportive suppliers enabling us to donate a few hundred pounds to charity.  This year we have chosen Cancer Research UK – the charity speaks for itself and is a cause close to our hearts.

Merry Christmas one and all!

What is Swan Upping?

Posted: Wed 12 July 2023 at 16:21

Each year in the third week in July all along the River Thames, the annual ceremony of Swan Upping takes place.

Swan Upping is the annual census of the swan population up and down the River Thames in the counties of Middlesex, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. The purpose is to collect data of the number of mute swans along the river, in addition to assessing the health of the cygnets (young swans) as they are prevalent at this time of year.

This historic ceremony dates from the twelfth century, when the ownership of all mute swans belonged to the Crown. The reason behind the ceremony was to ensure plentiful supplies of swans for royal banquets and feasts, as swans were historically a luxury staple of royal feasts. Of course, this tradition no longer prevails today, and mute swans are a protected species.

The King’s Swan Marker and the accompanying Swan Uppers of the Vintners’ and Dyers’ Livery Companies use six traditional Thames rowing skiffs in their five-day journey upstream to Abingdon. By tradition, scarlet uniforms are worn by The King’s Swan Marker and Swan Uppers, and each boat flies the appropriate flag and pennant.

Swans can live up to 30 years old, so some of the swan uppers may be saying hello to old friends along the river.

Be sure to keep an eye out for this historical event, securing a spot on Windsor and Eton Bridge as the team row past.

A Regal Race: Royal Ascot Horseracing

Posted: Wed 14 June 2023 at 16:02

Every summer, the prestigious Royal Ascot races approach. Located close to Windsor, this event captivates the hearts of racegoers and royalty alike, as this quintessentially British event combines elegance with the excitement of thoroughbred horse racing. Steeped in tradition and held at the magnificent Ascot Racecourse near Windsor, this renowned event showcases the best of fashion, entertainment, and world-class horse racing, making it a must-attend occasion for enthusiasts from around the globe.

A little history about the event – Ascot racecourse was established in 1711 by Queen Anne. It stands as one of the oldest and most distinguished horse racing events in the world, receiving patronage from a total of eleven monarchs since. It has earned its royal status through the consistent attendance of members of the British royal family, who contribute to the event’s grandeur and pageantry. Before her death, Queen Elizabeth was an avid attendee due to the interest in horses since childhood. This year, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to lead the Royal Procession again on Wednesday 15th June 2023.

Royal Ascot offers an exceptional array of races, including some of the most prestigious events in the horse racing calendar. Top-class thoroughbreds, jockeys, and trainers from around the world compete across five thrilling days, showcasing their skills and aiming for victory. The centrepiece of the event, and Ascot’s oldest surviving race – the Gold Cup, tests stamina and determination as horses gallop over two and a half miles.

Some may say the fashion of attendees is as important as the outcome of the race itself. Renowned for its fashion, the Royal Ascot Windsor is a showcase of exquisite, extravagant choices. Racegoers adorn themselves in elegant attire, with the iconic dress code requiring ladies to wear formal daywear and extravagant hats, while gentlemen are expected to sport morning dress or a traditional suit (Beau Brummel can be thanked for this, who introduced the modern men’s suit as a fashion requirement). The event’s highlight, the daily fashion parade, awards the most stylishly dressed individuals, adding an extra dash of glamour to the proceedings.

Of course, this spectacular event is selling out fast in the months leading up to it. The Royal Ascot Windsor stands as an unrivalled celebration of British culture, blending timeless traditions, high fashion, and world-class horse racing. It captures the essence of elegance and excitement, drawing in a diverse audience from across the world. Whether you are an avid racing fan, a fashion enthusiast, or simply seeking an unforgettable experience, the Royal Ascot Windsor promises a thrilling and glamorous affair that will leave you captivated.

Benefits of investing in property in Windsor for serviced accommodation

Investing in property in Windsor for rental as serviced accommodation has a number of benefits.  First and foremost, the town is a popular tourist destination, which means that there is a high demand for short-term rental accommodation.  This demand is likely to continue to grow as the UK continues to attract more international visitors post-pandemic.

In addition to high demand, investing in property in Windsor also offers the potential for high rental yields.   With occupancy rates as high as 90% to 95% property investors can easily earn an income from property way above a standard rental, without all of the pitfalls.

Rents are generally much higher when let as serviced accommodation and properties are cleaned weekly and therefore are better looked after than when long term letting using traditional methods.

Windsor and its industrious neighbour, Slough, have strong economies, with a range of industries, including tourism, retail, and technology.  There is a steady stream of business travellers coming to the town, therefore rental yields and occupancy rates remain high.

The town also has a strong rental market, with a range of different types of properties available, from period conversions to modern apartments.  This means that investors have a lot of choice when it comes to choosing a property that suits their budget and investment strategy.
