Nothing Gold Can Stay

Posted: Sat 20 November 2021 at 12:56

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Autumn in Windsor

What’s going on in Windsor this Autumn?

The leaves are falling from the trees and carpeting the ground in gold.  ‘Tis the season of the rake, trains have a hard time and gutters get blocked up but it all looks so beautiful and it’s the perfect time to explore Windsor.

The air is fresh and crisp Autumn mornings and blue skies are a welcome respite from the heat of the summer, especially this year that topped some of the hottest temperatures on record.  Wrap up warm and get outside to enjoy our wonderful town, parks and riverside location.  The Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, Virginia Water Lake and riverside locations are all stunning at this time of year.  The long shadows at this time of year also make for some stunning photography.

We can almost smell the Mulled Wine and Christmas is just around the corner.  Windsor gets dressed up to welcome visitors with the town’s Christmas lights and decorations already up.

There are plenty of things to do in Windsor in Autumn.  Explore Windsor Great Park Savill Gardens Illuminated:  A magical illuminated journey through beautiful woodland near Windsor Great Park’s Savill Garden and around the Obelisk Pond, ending at the Obelisk.

Walk in the Shadow of The Monarchs

The Queen’s Walkway is a 6.3km (approx. 4 miles) self-guided walking trail connecting 63 of Windsor’s most significant attractions.

It was designed by The Outdoor Trust, in partnership with Windsor locals, to recognise the moment on when Her Majesty The Queen had reigned for 63 years and more than 7 months (on 9 September 2015) to become Britain’s longest reigning monarch.  The Queen’s Walkway will help you explore this historic town with its theatre, its churches, its parks and gardens, its elegant residential streets, its many historic monuments, its railway stations, and the River Thames.

Download the pdf below to guide you through each step of this fabulous walkway.

An Englishman’s Home is his Castle…

Posted: Fri 11 June 2021 at 13:04

“Man” can also be substituted for “woman”, “person”, “non-gender specific” and so on, and “English” could also be any nationality – we are not prejudiced here – all are very welcome!

Bodiam Castle not Windsor

Although not Windsor Castle, the fabulous Bodiam Castle in East Sussex was recently visited by our directors on a weekend break away from work.  What an amazing place.  Bodiam is a 14th-century moated Castle near Robertsbridge and is a sight to behold.  You can walk around the Castle and get some great pictures – like this one snapped on an iPhone.  They also let you walk inside and although open to the elements you can climb the towers and walk through the ruins and marvel at its quadrangular design.

Bodiam was built in 1365,  built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge who was a knight of Edward III.  Expecting an invasion by the French during the 100 years war, Sir Edward built this Castle after applying for a licence to crenelate.

Interestingly, the moat, whilst looking beautiful and inviting, acted as part of the sewage system for some 30 toilets spread throughout the Castle.  Not so inviting now is it…?

If you are searching for your next Castle, or perhaps a Self Catering Cottage or Serviced Apartment in Windsor in Berkshire (with plumbed-in toilets) then we will happily help you to find the one best suited to your needs.  You need to book early though.  With the staycation boom already happening in parts of the UK, Windsor is reported as one of the top 13 places to visit in the UK.

So, expect it to be buzzing during the summer months but occupancy doesn’t drop much during autumn and winter as there are always plenty of things to do in Windsor.

If you are just staying for a night or two then Goswell House Hotel in central Windsor is an ideal destination for reasonably priced ensuite rooms with air conditioning.  This central Windsor Hotel has just 18 bedrooms and is in an ideal location for Windsor Castle (1 minute walk) and the many restaurants, bars and nightlife that make central Windsor so much fun.

central Windsor Hotel Goswell House is located on Goswell Hill (the charming cobbled street that runs from Peascod Street to Windsor Royal Station and is next to Sebastian’s Italian Restaurant.

covid safe serviced apartments Windsor

As we begin to get back to business and re-open our apartments to the public, we are committed to providing safe, clean, sanitised rooms following strict government and industry guidelines in order for our customers and staff to feel comfortable and secure.  We have invested in a bio-fogging machine to enable us to quickly and hygienically sanitise all apartments in-between guests.  The product we use is called SteriZar and it has a 99.999% kill rate for bacteria and viruses within 30 seconds of contact.  SteriZar is safe for humans, pets and houseplants and is non-toxic and is a non-irritant.

We have started a program of deep cleaning and then bio-fogging to ensure we cover every nook and cranny, every doorknob and handrail.  Keys and parking permits are stored under a UV light in-between each guest after being sprayed with disinfectant in order to kill any bacteria that may be lurking there.

Staff have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to understand the challenges of the virus on our business and how we can safely and easily implement best practices.  We are offering seamless no-contact check-ins by asking you to book and pay online using our secure web-link and then we send you key collection details so that we minimise contact with you during your stay.  If you are planning a StayCation this year then Windsor is a great place to base yourself.  As restaurants begin to open and the shops are already opening up, lockdown eases and life will return to a kind of “normal”, we hope that you will enjoy our safe, comfortable accommodation for a short trip to Windsor!

Here’s a round-up of what we provide

  • Self Check-in for apartments
  • Remote check ins for our B&B
  •  Self service breakfast in our B&B rooms
  •  Self catering apartments – your own private space

  • Bio-fogging using SteriZar

short term all inclusive accommodation windsorAccommodation Windsor Limited remains open for essential workers including our exceptional NHS staff and those that are stranded and unable to get home or who cannot stay where they are due to shielding.   We wanted to let you know that we are doing everything we possibly can to keep everybody safe:-

  • First and foremost all staff are following stringent health & hygiene procedures both personally and in our offices / vehicles / properties and we are sanitising all keys / safes and laundry baskets.
  • Staff are aware of the symptoms of Coronavirus and understand they should stay at home at the first sign of any symptoms.  We ask that all guests and suppliers follow the same procedures – see below for more details.
  • As well as cleaning our properties to their usual high standard we are completing additional sanitising including all communal areas.
  • Our office staff are now working from home where possible but are available to answer any guest queries and enquiries.  Please call rather than coming to our offices to avoid social contact.
  • We are able to offer self-check in for arrivals so that you do not need to enter our offices or come into contact with our staff.
  • We are in the process of winding down our weekly services to protect our employees and tenants and will be providing a doorstop drop off only.  This will involve dropping clean bedding / towels to the property at a pre-arranged time and taking used bedding / towels away with us for laundering.   We will endeavour to provide cleaning materials and toilet rolls where specifically required but please remember that it is currently extremely difficult for us to source these products.  We will only be able to offer weekly servicing on properties where the tenants have gone out.   Please note that we will monitor this situation and update as soon as possible but believe this is the responsible thing to do to protect our staff and tenants.
  • Current guidelines suggest that it is safe to go outside so long as you maintain a distance of 2m from others.  There are lots of parks and areas open for people to walk in and this is good for physical and mental well being.

These are troubling times but together we’ll get through it and if we all follow government instructions, it will pass all the quicker.  Please keep yourselves and your loved ones safe and remember that whilst you might not be at personal risk from Coronavirus we all have a responsibility to the elderly and more vulnerable in society.  Thank you so much for supporting us during this incredibly difficult period.

Please keep up to date with all the latest information on BBC news, NHS, WHO and Government websites.

COVID 19 Information for Visitors and Employees

For people who have travelled to or from a highly affected area, in the last 14 days, or who have come into contact with those that have done the same, we ask that you responsibly declare this to our staff prior to arrival.

To protect yourself and others we ask you to follow current World Health Organisation guidelines on hygiene and protection measures including:-

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water to kill viruses that may be on your hands.  If you are unable to wash your hands use anti-bacterial gel to protect yourself and others from germs.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to avoid the virus entering your body.
  • Social distancing of 2 metres is recommended and you should avoid handshaking and hugs.
  • Follow good respiratory hygiene if you sneeze or cough.  This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or a disposable tissue.  Dispose of the tissue immediately and wash your hands.
  • Stay informed with up to date information and follow advice recommended on government, NHS or World Health Organisation websites.

*If you display symptoms of Coronavirus – high temperature, persistent cough and usual signs of flu such as headaches and aching limbs you should self-isolate for 7 days.  If you are in a household, everybody in the household needs to self-isolate for 14 days.  Do not go to the Doctors or A&E.  If you require medical assistance you should call NHS 111 and if you experience extreme symptoms such as breathing difficulties you should contact emergency services.

*This advice has been developed for educational purposes and is correct at the time of publication.  It is not a substitute for professional medical advice.  Should you have any questions or concerns please consult a medical profession by calling NHS 111.

Where to Visit in 2020

Visit Windsor 2020

Looking forward to a new start this year? 2020 is set to be a magical year – not only a New Year but a new decade – and also a leap year – when women can take their destiny in their hands and ask a man to marry them!

2020 is also the Year of the Rat and also the year that Britain will leave the EU – if your sick and tired of Brexit and just want it to happen (or just to go away) then perhaps you need a holiday! And where better than a visit to Windsor and its fabulous Castle to take your mind off things! You can buy Windsor Castle tickets here.

Seriously though, Windsor has its fair share of great things to see and do – the Castle taking centre stage but there are a whole host of other things to do in Windsor. Like taking a water tour of Windsor – there are a few options depending on how adventurous you are. The Duck Tour is an amphibious vehicle that takes you on a road tour and then splashes into the water for the river tour. Then there is the French Brothers Boat trips or the glamorous Bateaux Windsor – fine dining on a tour of the sights up the Thames.

Bateaux Windsor – fine dining on the Thames at Windsor

What about a 2 hour horse ride through Windsor Great Park to get you out in the fresh air. Our friends at Tally Ho Stables organise various trips and are very knowledgeable on the various wildlife in the park and places of interest and they are very nice people too! They organise rides for every level of experience – contact them through their website: Tally Ho!

PGA Championship 2019 Moves to September

Posted: Sat 7 September 2019 at 10:31

The BMW PGA Championship 2019 is scheduled to begin on the 18th September 2019 at one of England’s most beautiful and historic courses, the West Course at the Wentworth Club. This is the tournament’s first year being hosted in chilly September, after moving the tournament from its usual May run time in order to avoid scheduling conflicts. The tournament gets played over 5 days, with an extra day for practising –  a day that fans can also attend. The winner will walk away with a cool $1.7 Million and the runners up will fight for a share of the rest of the $9.25 Million prize pool.

PGA Tour Accommodation WindsorThe front runner for the tournament looks to be Justin Thomas. The American is coming to the tournament following his 10th tournament win at Medinah Country Club. Other notable contenders for the purse include Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, previous winner Francesco Molinari, Henrik Stenson and Alex Noren.

The tournament is also host to a few performances from some big names. Rudimental will be performing on Saturday Afternoon, and Ann-Marie will be performing on Sunday. That’s not the only treat; If you’re lucky enough to own a BMW or a Mini you will receive free parking for the day!

Windsor is a great place to stay if you are planning to visit the tournament, being just a short drive away. There are lots of lovely bars and restaurants to enjoy your evenings, slightly further away from the massive crowds the tournament is sure to bring.  Check out our short term accommodation in Windsor!
